5 Things Every Great Website Needs

by | Featured, Web Design, Website Strategy

Whether you DIY your website or hire a web designer, every high-converting website has 5 things in common.

In this post, I’ll share the 5 things that every great website needs in order to be irresistible to your ideal clients and generate quality leads consistently.

An Immediately Clear Message

On average, your website has 6 seconds to captivate interest. If it’s not immediately clear what your website is about in those first 6 seconds (before they even start to scroll down), then you’re conversion rate drops. To avoid this, make sure it’s immediately apparent what you do once people land on your website. Your homepage should answer, who you are, what you do, and whom you help.

One Main CTA

The single most important rule of copywriting – whether you’re writing ad copy, social media copy, an email newsletter, or copy for your website – is the rule of one. Your copy should have one focus, one purpose, and one call to action. Asking people to take multiple actions or steps on your website dilutes the power of your message and the chances that they’ll follow through. Decide which result you want MOST from your website (ex: I’d like to book more discovery calls from my website) and have that be the main call to action throughout all your pages.

Recently Taken High-Quality Photos

Most people overestimate the power of high-quality photography. Especially in the online realm, visual assets can be a make-it-or-break-it deal. It’s how you make your first impression before anyone ever reads a WORD. Having high-quality photographs that are up to date and show that you’re on top of things, you take your business and your level of quality seriously, and it helps potential clients get to know you.

Easy Navigation

If your website is hard to navigate, most people won’t stick around to figure it out. In today’s busy world, with the constant drain of our time and attention, no one has the time to try and work with something that’s frustrating or hard to use. Making your website easy to navigate makes your website more enjoyable to use and feels more helpful to potential clients.

Well Organized Layout

Great web design directs, not distracts. High-converting website design that gets people to take action is all making the user experience seamless and enjoyable while helping people find the information they need to make decisions. Websites that are overly complicated and use too many distracting colors, hard-to-read fonts, and busy animations are at risk of visually overwhelming website visitors, which increases the chance of them clicking away and leaving your website. Your website should be well laid out, easy to navigate, and visually appealing without overstimulating.
